Our Story

John and Elizabeth knew that Summersville was the perfect place for a brewery—and they had the perfect name in mind. Gad Dam Brewing, named after the town of Gad, quickly went from an idea to reality. John started home brewing a variety of beer, relying on feedback from friends and family to get the brews just right. Right before the business officially opened, John and Elizabeth decided to add coffee to the mix. Customers would be able to drink coffee until it was time to drink beer and drink beer until it was time to drink coffee!

Gad Dam Brewing began operating out of a coffee trailer prior to opening the permanent location on March 17, 2020—just 2 days before the state shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This, of course, created many challenges, but John and Elizabeth worked diligently to overcome it all!

Today, John’s beer is on tap, rotating between 6 varieties. Gad Dam Brewing also features brews from other breweries throughout West Virginia and surrounding states. Our coffee is locally roasted, and we also serve local wines and fresh fruit smoothies. We collaborate with local bakers for our pepperoni rolls, weekly special cheesecake, and decorated iced cookies!

Gad Dam Brewing is designed to be a family-friendly atmosphere, with an abundance of cozy indoor and outdoor spaces! Rest on our back deck or around one of our many firepits with your family and friends. Or chat with our favorite bartenders at our custom-made bar! Grab a book or board game from our shelf, or take advantage of our free WIFI to get some work done. Outside, we have foosball, a giant-sized Connect 4, and corn hole! Pets are welcome to visit and relax in our outdoor areas.
